Grandma's Review of "Nightshade" by Andrea Cremer

I liked this book with it's different take on Werewolves but it is not up there with my favorites. The characters are well written with just the right amount of love story. The heroine has to choose between her arranged mate and the new human boy at school. However, the ending really leaves you hanging which is probably what keeps me from rating this book higher. On the other hand maybe the author had the right idea with the ending because I will definitely have to read the next book.

Favorite Character: Calla (strong heroine)
Cover Score: 4 out of 5
Recommended To: Teens and Adults
Rating: 3-1/2 out of 5

Grandma's Review of Books One - Eight of "The Sookie Stackhouse Novels" by Charlaine Harris

Really enjoyed this set of books. However, if you are expecting them to be like the TV series "True Blood" you will be disappointed. The TV show is a darker version with different use of the characters. The books are an easy read with plenty of action (the vampire/werewolf version of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum). I will definitely read the last three books in this series.

Favorite Character: Sookie (gotta love her)
Cover Score: 4 out of 5
Recommended To: Adults that are light-hearted Vampire lovers
Rating: 4 out of 5

Grandma's Review of "Tempest" by Julie Cross

Loved it! Talk about getting you at HELLO!! You know you have a good book in your hands when you don't want to put it down and when you do have to put it down that's all you think about when you are away from it. The time travel aspect is written in such a believable way that you actually think that if time travel was possible it would happen this way. Love the characters. From what I understand this book is the first of trilogy. Can't wait for the other two! Hope they make a movie out of this!

Favorite Character: Jackson
Cover Score: 5 out of 5
Recommended To: Teens, Adults, and Grandma's who loved TWILIGHT (you will love the love story)
Rating: 5 out of 5

Thank you, Julie Cross for sending me an advanced copy of TEMPEST. You can buy Tempest here

I just got a Kindle for Christmas and found this free prequel to the Tempest Series. Download it here

Grandma's Review of "Scorpio Races" by Maggie Stiefvater

I can't actually say that I didn't like this book, it just didn't get me at Hello. The author spent a lot of time in building the characters (which I liked) but failed to give me details. I would have liked to have known rather the time frame was in the future or past and where Thisby Island is located (off what mainland).  I was disappointed that the actual Scorpio Race was a very small part of the book. From reading the preview I thought the race would be similar to the life and death struggle of the Hunger Games. Overall if you are a Maggie Stiefvater fan you should read the book, however, if I read this book first I may not have wanted to read her "Wolves of Mercy Falls Series" and then I would have missed out on three great books.

Grandma's Review of "The Hunger Games" Trilogy by Suzanne Collins

I loved this trilogy. Action packed with just the right amount of romance. The first book is the best but the other two held their own. Can't wait for the movie. If it is half as good as the books, it is bound to be a hit!

Favorite Character: Katniss
Cover Score: 4 out of 5
Recommended To: Teens and Adults (plenty of action)
Rating: 4 out 5 (the first book is a definite 5)

Grandma's Review of "The Wolves of Mercy Falls Series" by Maggie Stiefvater

The books are an easy read that gets you in the first chapter. The way the author portrays humans becoming werewolves is believable, with the right amount of fantasy and realism. I also like that the stories are told from different characters point of view. This is a series that you can't just read the first book, you will want to run out and buy the other two.

My Favorite Character: Sam (Shiver) and Cole (Linger & Forever)
Cover Score: 3 out of 5
Recommended To: Teens and Adults (especially Grandma's who loved TWILIGHT)
Overall Rating: 4 out of 5
